Tell Tale Marketing Open for Business...
This is a first: first blog ever; first blog on MY website, built with my own fair hands! This is the launch of my own business...my first!
I am Lynda McDairmant and I am now officially my own boss!
I have already kick-started my campaign to 'tell the world' and last week I attended an amazing networking event through Cumbria Chamber of Commerce involving the psychic powers of horses to benefit businesses and their teams – more on that in a future blog.
This coming week is a biggie for me as Dumfries & Galloway have a week of events for networking and business learning all across the region #dgbusinessweek. I'm booked on to a whole host of useful events including workshops by Google Garage and the annual regional tourism conference.
I've spent weeks talking and telling my story and now I can't wait to get on and tell others'. Before that a little about my journey so far...
I've been an employee for all my working life, just about 30 years. I began almost immediately working in sales and progressed into marketing, realising I had a flair for it! Others will be the true judge of course.
Over the past 25 years tourism, hospitality and retail have been my bag but the fundamentals of marketing span all business models and its stories that unite us all: people are always curious to hear your story so in simple terms that's what I do: shape and tell your story to the right audience, grow buy-in and with that your revenue.
Setting up my own business has always been something I have kept to the back of my mind, never really believing I could do it for myself. With time on my hands after choosing to move on from my previous employer, I decide to take the plunge, on a whim.
I researched the services available through Business Gateway (Chamber of Commerce in England) for those thinking about starting up their own business. I checked out their website on the Monday and attended an introduction workshop for starting up your own business the following day. I though, why not. I'll either come away thinking this is definitely not for me or I will be excited by the prospect. It was the latter and I have not looked back since.
That was less than 2 months ago and after choosing my business name, building my website and writing my business plan I am ready to go for it!
Tell Tale Marketing...the name and the logo
Choosing the name for my business was difficult, with so many ideas running through my mind. I settled on Tell Tale Marketing since, as I have said, it sums up how I see the essence of what marketing a business is. Harness your story...build a robust brand identity that resonates with customers and success will follow. Building engaging stories and making sure they are communicated effectively is my passion.
As for the logo, my son, Fergus Denton designed it. He's just out of university with a Bachelor degree in 3D Modelling and Animation and is now job hunting. Got to make use of your resources so I set him the task of designing a logo that has life – so he added a tail – why not – cute play on words and as brands are brought to life through stories, Tell Tale is no different.
While I do not see myself working exclusively with the travel and tourism industry, I have worked in tourism and hospitality for so many years. I am well-known nationally and internationally within the travel trade industry and tourism bodies. It's a great industry to work in and I hope to meet with many old friends and become acquainted with new as I progress with my new venture, representing and supporting many exciting new business, helping them to move on and prosper.
Local, national; big, small, a sole trader like me even, I am here to offer the advice you need to move your business on. I can offer you ideas or be more hands on with a specific project.
To start...let's talk
